I think the theme of the book is family always cares. I think that because Amy lives in China but the rest of her family lives on the other side of the world but they still care about Amy and her mother. One day Amy's family sent Amy a gift because they care about Amy. Each day Amy and her mother think about what there family on the other side of the world are doing and they wonder if they are thinking and still caring about Amy and her mother while Amy and her mother care about them.
